The newly refurbished station, located in Munich, will be one of 200 refurbished stations by the end of the year," said Rainer Kraus, Aral's Head of Transformation Convenience Business.
By 2021, the REWE To Go format will be available at up to 1,000 company-owned petrol stations.
The Rewe ToGo stores feature fresh and to-go foods, and have been designed to appeal to commuting shoppers. The ten trial stores saw strong sales across all categories, as well as attracting new customers to Aral.
Over the next five years, Aral plans to invest in structural upgrades to its service stations to build the new stores.
Last year a member of Rewe’s management board, Lionel Souque, said, “We look forward to the long-term strategic cooperation with a strong partner like Aral.”
He added that company's core competence as a food wholesaler and creator of the Rewe ToGo concept means that it can make a meaningful contribution to the sustainable growth of Aral’s retail business.
