Vivo opens first filling station in Indonesia

PT Vivo Energy Indonesia officially kicked off on Thursday the operation of its first fuel station on Jl. Raya Cilangkap, East Jakarta, after its trail operation in September was stopped by the government.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said the government had given private companies the opportunity to distribute transportation fuels to customers.

“But they must abide by the existing regulations,” Jonan said on the sidelines of the launch ceremony of the Vivo fuel station as reported by tribunnews.com.

He said he had to stop the fuel station's operation in September because the company had not submitted the required documents to commence operations, in particular a letter of explanation as a distributor as required by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Regulation No. 16/2011.

He added that the company's brand name, Vivo, had also not been in line with the name of the company, which was initially called PT Nusantara Energi Plant Indonesia (NEPI).

Jonan finally agreed to officiate the launch of fuel station's operation after the company fulfilled all the requirements.

The Vivo station sells gasoline with research octane numbers (RON) 89, 90 and 92. Vivo gasoline with RON 89 is sold for Rp 6,100 (45 US cents) a liter, cheaper than Premium, a subsidized gasoline with RON 88, which is sold for Rp 6,450 a liter. (bbn)
