Petrol contaminated with diesel at Caltex fuel station

In Australia a Caltex spokesman Sam Collyer said a fuel delivery mix-up led to "a small amount" of diesel ending up in petrol sold from some of the bowsers.

He said the delivery truck, from another company, "topped up" one of the station's fuel tanks with diesel on Wednesday and the error was discovered in a routine check the next day. Caltex promised to cover "any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred by affected customers, including mechanical assessment and any required repairs".

The company stressed the problem was isolated to the one petrol station. Mr Collyer said Caltex would be investigating the mistake and speaking with the delivery company to avoid a repeat of the problem. "Caltex prides itself on the quality of all its products and it is unacceptable that we have supplied some customers with petrol that did not meet our stringent standards," he said.
