Fuel prices are being cut at more than a thousand filling stations across the UK run by Britain’s biggest supermarkets. Britain’s big four supermarkets Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Tesco and Asda have announced that they would cut petrol prices by 3p per litre.
Tesco’s said in a press release that the network of its 500 filling stations is the largest of all UK supermarkets and the drop means millions of motorists across the country can save on the cost of fuel in the run up to Christmas.
Peter Cattell, Fuel Director for Tesco said: “With the busy festive season just around the corner, we know many of our customers will be starting to prepare for the big day. So to provide a little extra help we’re cutting the cost of petrol and diesel by up to 3ppl at all of our 500 filling stations.”
Asda said that they were cutting the price of unleaded petrol by up to 3p per litre – from tomorrow morning one will pay no more than 110.7p per litre at Asda’s petrol filling stations nationwide. They will also be cutting the price of diesel by up to 2p per litre to a maximum of 112.7p per litre. Asda’s Senior Director for Petrol Andy Peake said: “Today’s latest move shows that Asda is once again leading the way in reducing the price at the pumps to help the millions of motorists across the UK.”
Roger Fogg, from Morrisons, said: “A fall in the price of fuel due to a stronger pound is allowing us to pass further savings on to our customers. We will continue to make sure we are as competitive as we can be on price in every one of our petrol stations.”
The fuel cut is expected to be welcomed by the millions of drivers who have seen fuel prices rise due to the fall in the pound.
