Motorists can now pay for fuel with their Apple Watch at Exxonmobil stations

ExxonMobil’s Speedpass+ app has added support for Apple Watch payments, letting drivers pay for fuel with a tap of their wrist.

The update, added to the Speedpass+ app on Friday, will let any Apple Watch owner authorise a payment using whatever stored option they choose, be that a manually inputted credit card or via Apple Pay.

ExxonMobil first added Apple Pay support to Speedpass+ in March of last year, and the new updates should work at more than 10,000 Exxon and Mobil gas stations in the US, the company says.

ExxonMobil is introducing several additional updates to the Speedpass app, including the option to use the “Apply and Buy” feature to apply for an ExxonMobil Smart Card, a private-label credit card issued by Citibank. Once an application is approved, the card will be automatically added as a payment option within the app for the consumer to begin using. For a limited time, new accounts will receive a savings of 20 cents per gallon for the first two months, then six cents on every gallon after that.

“We are focused on providing consumers with the best possible experience at our Exxon and Mobil stations,” said Kim Kemper, U.S. loyalty manager for ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Company.

All Speedpass app transactions use an encrypted token to protect the consumer’s data. Consumers can select their payment method from options including major credit cards, debit cards, ExxonMobil Smart Cards, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
