BP is donating 200,000 gallons of diesel fuel to Puerto Rico, to assist with relief efforts, will be used by first responders, hospitals, and government services.
Most of the island is still without power three weeks after Hurricane Maria wiped out the infrastructure.
45 people were killed in the storm, and more than 100 are still missing. "Our hearts go out to all those affected," said John Mingé, chairman and president of BP America. "While we know there will be many challenging days ahead, we hope this fuel donation will help in getting the island back on its feet."
BP worked closely with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Peerless Oil and Chemicals Inc. to provide the gas. Officials coordinating the response efforts will distribute the fuel based on need.
The BP Foundation is also matching employee donations to eligible hurricane-related relief organizations.
