Tesco supermarkets roll out un-manned sites in the UK

Ledbury Welding & Engineering has secured a valuable contract for the supply of un-manned, compact filling stations to leading UK supermarket chain, Tesco

This follows the success of an initial trial installation at Tesco’s Ilkeston store. LWE’s managing director, Kevin Powell, said;

“Working closely with our customer, we have created a compact ‘pay-at-the-pump’ filling station, designed to allow more flexibility for the planning and deployment at Tesco Stores. The Tesco Ilkeston installation has been well received by customers and is performing well above expectations. Having validated the concept, Tesco has decided to proceed with orders for a further eight installations across the UK”

Commenting on the general benefits of above ground filling stations, Kevin explains “ This order reaffirms our commitment to the development of ‘above ground’ fuel storage as an alternative to underground tanks, which have traditionally been specified for forecourt installations. Above ground tanks are more flexible and can be relocated if necessary.

Site preparation work is simplified and quality standards ensured, as a large proportion of manufacturing, assembly and test is undertaken under factory conditions. Petroleum is a more volatile product than diesel and gas oil and requires special measures. Ledbury’s specialist ‘SuperVault Fire Protected Above Ground Tank’ offers unrivalled protection to the stored products, giving customers piece of mind that a modular filling station is a safe and secure facility”
