Gilbarco and Chevron roll out EMV upgrade programme for petrol retailers

Gilbarco Veeder-Root has rolled out an exclusive EMV dispenser programme to help Chevron and Texaco’s marketers and retailers to adopt latest payment security technology.

Chevron collaborated with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to offer this limited-time programmed to help fuel stations upgrade their gasoline dispensers to EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) security standards ahead of their October 2020 deadline.

All US gasoline retailers are required to update the point-of-sale systems in their fuel pumps to accept chip-enabled credit and debit cards. Those who fail to upgrade their systems will be fined by Visa and Mastercard.

Participants in the Gilbaro programme can add other technology upgrades including NFC (near field communication) readers to deliver contactless payment facility.

Chevron retail programs manager Kevin Gousse said: “It is important to us that our retailers upgrade to EMV quickly. We are working with Gilbarco to offer an exclusive program to make the process of upgrading to EMV easier and more cost effective for our retailers. “In addition to EMV, this programme includes the latest dispenser technologies to help our retailers prepare their business for the future.”
