SPAR Austria extends partnership with Doppler to ten years

Food retail chain SPAR Austria has extended its partnership with petrol forecourt service operator Doppler Mineralöl for an additional ten years until 2030.

Under the terms of the agreement, it will serve as the exclusive forecourt store partner at Turmöl and BP service stations operated by Doppler. SPAR will transform all 15 Nah & Frischpunkt forecourt stores into SPAR Express format.

SPAR Austria CEO Friedrich Poppmeier said: “The extended cooperation between SPAR and Doppler, as well as the addition of 15 new stores, shows that our SPAR Express concept is in touch with the latest trends and that we clearly recognise the needs of our customers.”

The food retailer is already planning to expand its forecourt store portfolio in the country with two new outlets to open in Amstetten and Wels. The company currently operates 50 SPAR Express forecourt stores in Austria. According to the retailer, SPAR Express forecourt stores witnessed an over 10% increase in turnover in the first half of this year.

Poppmeier added: “With this sales growth we are far ahead of local food market growth. These positive results have motivated us to extend our cooperation with Doppler, which started in 2009, becoming their exclusive forecourt store partner over the next decade.”

Austria SPAR International (ASPIAG) developed the SPAR brand in Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, and Northern Italy through licences granted by SPAR International. In June this year, SPAR Russia opened its first EUROSPAR Supermarket in Omsk, expanding its presence into southwestern Siberia.
