Setel petrol e-payment solution now available at 700 Petronas stations

Setel, Malaysia’s first direct-to-pump fuel payment mobile solution is now available at over 700 Petronas stations across the country, with numbers expected to grow in the coming weeks.

Building on the positive response it has garnered from the public thus far, the company is on a nationwide expansion drive. Setel was developed to eradicate various customer pain points when refuelling—by integrating payment and loyalty benefits into one app.

The seamless, friction-less e-payment solution was first introduced in 2018 at select Petronas stations in the Klang Valley before aggressively expanding to all 273 Petronas stations in the valley.

“As of January 2020, Setel recorded over 3 million transactions and has garnered positive responses from our customers in the Klang Valley. We are now ready to offer Setel nationwide and will be introducing exciting new features in the coming months,” said Iskandar Ezzahuddin, CEO of Setel.

Iskandar shared that as of December 2019, Setel has recorded a Net Promoter Score of 75 (a customer relationship metric). He added that both its free iOS and Android apps have high user ratings as well.

With Setel, customers can easy search for a nearby Petronas station to refuel, and make petrol purchases right from the comfort of their car. The app is integrated with Petronas’ Mesra Loyalty rewards system. Recently, Setel introduced the ability to use Mesra points to pay for petrol directly from the app.

Azrul Osman Rani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Petronas Dagangan Berhad said, “The nationwide expansion is also us pushing our boundaries in delivering meaningful value to our customers.”

My colleague from SoyaCincau who was there at the press event shared that Setel will be rolling out new features in the coming months including “Setel for Family.” The new feature will allow you, as the main user, to pay for petrol for multiple family members from your account.

Also, the upcoming “Order, Pick-up and Go” feature will let you pre-order food or drinks from the Mesra store prior to your arrival at the station. Lastly, Setel is exploring partnerships with car manufacturers to integrate the Setel app into a vehicle’s head unit.
