Confusion in Bangkok over phones on forecourts causes Thai U-Turn

Despite a widely-circulated report on social media detailing a supposed THB100,000 fine or year in prison for using your phone or failing to shut off your motor at a filling station, the Ministry of Energy has announced that the report is untrue.

To avoid unnecessary upset, Vitoon Kulcharoenvirat, the director-general of the Energy Business Department of the Ministry of Energy, has asked people to shop sharing the false information, according to Thai PBS.

He did note, however, that motorists should turn off the engine and refrain from using their phones at petrol stations. He also said that station workers may refuse to serve customers if they fail to do these things.
