Thai fuel retailer PTT considers setting up budget hotels on filling stations

PTT Plc is conducting a feasibility study into diversifying into the hospitality business, particularly budget hotels near its petrol stations. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, executive vice-president for PTT's oil business, said the new business model would be another revenue-raising channel for the national oil and gas conglomerate.

PTT discovered many owners of its petrol stations are investors with their own land nearby on which small hotels could be built, he said.็ It aims to provide an integrated service including petrol sales, Amazon Coffee outlets, convenience stores and hotels.

PTT is also conducting a feasibility study into listing its oil business on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The final decision is expected to be made by year-end.It plans to expand the number of Amazon Coffee shops at its petrol stations to 1,700 by year-end, up from 1,500 now. It also aims to increase the number of 7-Eleven stores from 1,270 to 1,400.
