All public transport vehicles in Allahabad to run on CNG from November

Come November, all public transport vehicles or three-wheelers would ply on bio fuel, compressed natural gas (CNG). This will help reduce pollution in the city.

Gujarat-based private company in collaboration with Indian Oil will open at least six CNG filling stations for the purpose, of which three will be operational from November 1. The regional transport office has been entrusted with the task of converting diesel operated buses, auto-rickshaw and other three-wheelers to the alternate fuel.

The construction of three stations have already been completed and plot for remaining three have been earmarked. Divisional commissioner Rajan Shukla said, "Introduction of CNG will help in cutting down the existing vehicular pollution level, which has increased in the city due to emission of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, lead and particulate matter, to a great extent.

The process of obtaining approvals for laying of pipelines, construction of gas filling stations is on, and construction work for a CNG station at Andawa Mode and two at Elgin Road has been completed."
