South African fuel strike rumbles on

As the mass wage strike in South Africa enters its second week the South African petroleum industry has said it does not anticipate any fuel shortages.

So far refineries operated by Shell, BP, Chevron and Sasol, have maintained output although there were some distruptions to deliveries

Talks between Ceppwawu union bosses and employers broke down on Friday and there are currently no further talks scheduled.

Over 15,000 union members are pushing for a one year agreement for 9%. “Offers made by employers did not yield any benefit so there is no agreement at all. The strike will definitely continue,” said Clement Chitja, head of collective bargaining at Ceppwawu said following the meeting.
