Bulgarian VM Petroleum to open first low-cost fuel station in Sofia

Bulgarian filling station operator VM Petroleum said this week it plans to open a new low-cost fuel station in Sofia in November, which will be the company's first in the country's capital.

Although the project is still in planning stage, it is expected that the new filling station will have the capacity to service 45-50 cars simultaneously, which will rank it among the biggest in the world, VM Petroleum said in a statement.

The company, which presently sells fuel at prices some 10% to 20% below the market average via 10 filling stations in 9 towns in northeastern Bulgaria, plans to open another several stations across the country by the end of the year.

In March, VM Petroleum said it plans to open its first filling station in Sofia by the end of June.

Local businessman Vesselin Mareshki, who is the owner of VM Petroleum, also owns a chain of drug stores in the country and plans to run in the November presidential elections.

Mareshki, who entered the fuel retail business last year, said in March that the total value of his project, including 10 stations, exceeds 150 million levs ($85.7 million/76.8 million euro).
