Pilot project for multi-fuel service stations coming to Quebec in 2018

Pierre Arcand, the Quebec minister of natural resources and energy, announced a pilot project Monday to implement multi-fuel stations, with the first to be available by the end of 2018.

The stations will allow drivers of electric vehicles to “refuel” next to vehicles powered by hydrogen, propane or natural gas. Four areas were chosen for the project: Montreal, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships and the Outaouais.

A committee will oversee the proper functioning of the project, led by Quebec and La Coop fédérée, with several partners: Gaz Métro, Hydro-Québec, Air Liquide, Toyota Canada and Sonic Energy, which is a subsidiary of La Coop fédérée.

Eventually, Quebec wants all the service stations in the province to be multi-fuel.
