The first step of the partial deregulation process is taking place in Slovenia. The government has debated the draft decree and is expected to introduce the deregulation of the fuel retail market later this year. The Minister for Commerce is set to liberalise the prices of premium fuel and heating oil initially. For the foreseeable future, diesel and regular 95-octane petrol will remain subject to price regulation. Both these fuel types will remain in the current fortnightly pricing mod- el which is based on the price of international fuel markets, the dollar-euro exchange, a set profit cap and excise duty. This model has operated since 2000.
