Days after the Uttar Pradesh special task force (STF) unearthed a racket of short delivery of fuel at retail outlets across the state, Indian petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered a reassessment of all fuel outlets across UP.
On Friday the STF raided 11 retail outlets in state capital Lucknow on leads that these outlets were tampering with fuel calibration using electronic chips, leading to less dispensation of fuel.
Nine outlets were found to be using such methods to con customers of which three belong to Indian Oil Corporation and six to Bharat Petroleum Corporation.
The reassessment will be done by a teams from the state government’s weight and measures department, civil supplies department, STF and the oil marketing company.
“Surprise checks on fuel stations will be conducted across the country,” said Pradhan in a statement, adding that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Pradhan has already held talks with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath the state chief secretary and the DGP to take stock.
The Central and state governments will hold a meeting in Lucknow which will be chaired by the state chief secretary and attended by representatives of the ministry of petroleum and natural gas and the oil marketing companies.
