Tankstation De Laares, a fuel station located in the Dutch city of Enschede, has been victimised so many times by petrol thieves that the manager, whose name has not been disclosed, decided to post the non-paying clients' details on a Facebook page. According to DutchNews.nl, aside from naming and shaming the thieves on the social media website, he also tracked them down to their homes. His unconventional approach has been successful so far as he was able to recover some of the money. Some of the culprits, however, demanded that their images be taken down for privacy reasons. The Dutch police agree on the privacy violation adding that the station’s novel approach is risky and unwise. A staff member at the station knows that catching thieves is the job of the law enforcers "but the police don't do anything about it and that makes things difficult for us", he explained.
