Digital receipts are becoming ever more prevalent throughout the UK, with a quarter of UK retailers now exclusively offering them over paper receipts, according to a report from eyosretail.
76% of analysed UK retailers currently offer customers paper receipts and 84% offer digital ones, while 60% give customers both options. Overall, more stores now rely exclusively on digital (24%) rather than paper (16%) receipts.
Over half of analysed UK supermarkets offered the option of digital receipts, but stores such as Tesco, Aldi and Asda are yet to introduce the alternative for their customers.
Digital receipts can also provide “invaluable opportunities” for data collection, enabling companies to improve the customer experience through careful analysis of customer information.
“Our research around digital receipt offerings from UK retailers is interesting as it shows how far things have progressed in cutting out paper receipts altogether,” eyosretail sales director Simon Harris said.
“The environmental impact of them, whilst not commonly known, are enormous so we would always advise consumers to ask for a digital receipt if it’s not offered in-store, plus it’s much more convenient if you ever want a refund or return.”
