Madrid is preparing to take a significant step towards sustainable mobility with the creation of the largest street charging station in the city, which will have 94 charging spaces and will be located on a municipal plot at 47 Pirotecnia Street, in the district of Vicálvaro.
This initiative, led by the City Council and awarded to Acciona Recarga, will begin construction this spring and is expected to be operational by 2024.
The infrastructure will have a total of 47 double charging points, which will allow the simultaneous charging of two vehicles at each point. In addition, it will stand out for the integration of photovoltaic solar panels, which will produce 200,000 kW per year and avoid the emission of 54,600 kg of CO2 every year, according to calculations by the capital's city council.
The technical features of the charging station include 32 50 kW charging points, ten 100 kW electrical points and five 210 kW charging points, with a total power of 4,000 kW. This infrastructure will be available seven days a week, 365 days a year, to ensure continuous access to EV charging.
As part of the concession contract, Acciona Recarga undertakes to execute the infrastructure within twelve months, with completion expected in the second half of 2024. In addition, the company will assume the payment of an annual fee to the City Council, starting with 12,000 euros per year until January 1, 2029, and increasing to 180,000 euros per year from that year, with a variable component based on energy consumption.
This initiative is part of the 'Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy' and reflects the municipality's commitment to the electrification of the city and the promotion of sustainable mobility. "All this, based on the requirements of the Air Quality Ordinance (OCAS), approved in January 2023, and the Sustainable Mobility Ordinance (WHO)."
