In the Netherlands, 54 percent of EV drivers are considering returning to a fuel car after 2025, when the tax benefit will disappear. This is evident from the annual EV and Driver Survey conducted by the Association of Electric Drivers (VER) in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the University of Groningen.
4,000 respondents were asked for the survey, 91 percent of whom are men. According to the VER, the results of the study are a 'worrying signal'. The advocacy group calls for action to support and electric driving.
Meanwhile, the 'low additional' EVs are already leaving the Netherlands en masse, according to the Autotelex market update. 'The switch from fuel drivers to electric vehicles is a crucial part of the intended environmental gains in the mobility sector.
It's therefore up to a new Dutch Cabinet to find measures to reverse this trend and keep electric driving attractive to consumers', according to the VER. From 2025, MRB exemption for electric cars will be phased out and various addition benefits will disappear. In 2026, the MRB exemption will disappear completely.
