Islands Petroleum Limited has taken decisive action to address the impending fuel crisis in Papua New Guinea. Last week, they commissioned a new 5-million-liter tank in Lae, Morobe Province to bolster fuel supply. This move comes in response to the current trend of fuel shortages caused by Puma Energies’ shutdown of fuel supply across the country.
The newly built tank in Lae received its first fuel delivery on Monday, March 4, marking a significant milestone for Islands Petroleum (IPL).
Nathan Bluett, the Chief Executive Officer of IPL, emphasized their commitment to serving the Papua New Guinea market. He stated, “ This is another key project successfully managed and delivered by our PNG engineering team. In October 2023, our team commissioned a new 5 million-liter tank in our Rabaul terminal.
The newly built Lae tank received diesel on Monday night as ExxonMobil’s tanker delivered additional fuel into Lae. Islands Petroleum is working with our supplier to increase the frequency of fuel shipments into PNG to better manage our increased demand in the country” .
As part of their efforts to serve the community, IPL has collaborated with local retailers. For instance, a fuel station owned by Andersons, under the umbrella company of Chemcare Group Limited, has recently transitioned to selling fuel under the IPL banner. This strategic move ensures that customers in Lae receive reliable fuel supply during these challenging times.
Islands Petroleum plays a crucial role in supplying fuel and Mobil lubricants throughout the country, with an extensive reach that includes 10 locations, including major ports in the New Guinea Islands, Southern, Lae, Madang, and Mt. Hagen
