István Kapitány, executive vice president of Shell Mobility Co. Operations LLC, Houston, is leaving on July 1, after 37 years with the energy giant, Kapitány said on LinkedIn on April 3.
The move comes as Shell plc is pushing ahead with its growth of electric-vehicle (EV) charging and convenience-store offers but will divest around 500 Shell-owned sites globally each in 2024 and in 2025, the major oil company said in March.
Kapitany did not reveal if he is retiring or moving on to another company, but did say that David Bunch will succeed him. Bunch currently serves as the chairman of Shell U.K.
“I’m 100% confident that David’s creativity, energy and passion for people will drive Shell’s Mobility business to stay number one on the exciting journey through the energy transition,” Kapitány said.
Kapitány joined the company in 1987 and has since then held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including president of Penzoil Quaker State Co. and Shell Lubricants, and vice president of Europe’s retail division, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also held the position of CEO of Shell Hungary and regional manager of Shell South Africa.
In his current role, Kapitány, who for the last 10 years has guided Shell’s more than 45,000 locations worldwide, said that he would “never have imagined the fantastic global journey that was ahead of me—the different roles that have taken me to wonderful countries around the world where I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many exceptional people.”
Kapitány also helped direct Shell through its energy transition, which now has more than 50,000 public Shell Recharge EV Charge Points in 30 countries, he said.
