Japanese Seven & i Holdings said this week that it wants to see huge growth for its c-store chain, globally and would be accelerating its entry into Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
The firm aims to increase the total number of stores operating worldwide by 18% to about 100,000 new stores by 2030 giving them a presence in 30 countries..
These goals are part of a bigger restructuring process that includes the sale of supermarket assets that have been underperforming in recent times.
As reported by Reuters, Seven has been closing down several Ito-Yokado supermarkets, apart from retiring its apparel stores and selling its Sogo & Seibu department store unit. In addition, the company is expected to invest over $2 billion in acquiring convenience stores in Australia and the United States.
