Singapore Airlines has signed an agreement with Neste for the purchase of 1,000 tonnes of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Pure Fuel. In this way, SIA and Scoot, the Group's two airlines, will become the first companies to receive Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), produced at Neste's refinery in the city-state, at Singapore's Changi airport
Neste will supply this type of blended fuel directly to Changi Airport's fuel hydrant system, strengthening its comprehensive SAF supply capacity in Singapore.
Neste will combine SAF with conventional aviation fuel in accordance with the required safety specifications (American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) safety specifications), and distribute the blended aviation fuel to Changi Airport's fuel hydrant system in two batches: one in the second quarter of 2024 and another in the fourth quarter of this year.
This milestone will also mark Neste's first direct supply of this type of fuel to airlines at Changi Airport, bolstering its end-to-end SAF supply chain capabilities in Singapore. This all comes after the expansion phase of the Neste refinery in the country was completed in May 2023.
The plant has the capacity to produce one million tonnes of SAF per year, making it the largest manufacturing plant for this type of sustainable fuel in the world.
