Nigerian National Petroleum Co. Ltd. (NNPC) is aiming to raise the number of its compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling stations to more than 100 by next year.
NNPC Retail Ltd. managing director Huub Stokman announced the goal at a commissioning activity for 12 new CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria’s national oil and gas company said in a press release.
“CNG provides Nigeria with affordable alternatives to existing available fuel products”, Stokman was quoted as saying by NNPC. “It will be about 40 percent cheaper than petrol in Nigeria and with continued investments, it will become a significant part of our energy mix”.
Group chief executive Mallam Mele Kyari said, “There is simply no way to turn back on delivering CNG for all Nigerians… We will cover the gap in order to ensure that the volatility we see with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) does not apply to gas”.
