Fastned on schedule for 1000 stations by 2030

Dutch EV charging operator, Fastned has accelerated the acquisition of new high-traffic locations, with 79 locations in the first half of 2024, the fastest pace ever.

With 509 locations signed, Fastned has reached half of its planned number of locations and is on track to reach its goal of 1,000 stations in Europe by 2030. In the first half of 2024, 22 new fast-charging stations were built: eight in the Netherlands, seven in Belgium, two in Switzerland and five in Great Britain.

Fastned currently has 318 stations in seven countries, which means it says it is on track for the 335 to 350 stations planned by the company in FY 2024.

"If we look at the facts, the electric transition is well underway," says CEO Michiel Langezaal of Fastned. "The increasing number of electric vehicles across Europe shows that motorists are embracing electric cars now that they are almost equal in price to fossil fuel cars.

The current pace of development of batteries, still a relatively young technology, puts us on an irreversible path and accelerates the full transition to electric mobility. Reports indicate that the price of battery cells from China has halved in the past year. As a result, a wave of more affordable, new models with longer ranges is upon us."

According to Langezaal, Fastned continues to expand its network. "With more than 500 sites acquired and 318 operational stations, we are better than ever on track to have a network of a thousand stations by 2030."
