The Autorité de régulation des transports (ART) has highlighted that the cost of charging an electric car at motorway service stations in France is indeed high.
This is mainly because motorway operators take a significant portion of the overall charging costs, sometimes up to 18%, which is much higher than the usual 4% for other goods and services1.
This high cost can sometimes make charging an electric vehicle more expensive than using petrol for the same journey1. The ART has suggested that reducing the operators’ cut to around 5% could help lower the charging fees by up to 10%, making it more affordable for drivers
