Shell pilots car wash centre's in Germany

Shell Deutschland is investing in stand alone car wash centres. A pilot site in Gelsenkirchen is to be officially opened next month. Further pilots are planned in Hamburg and Dresden. Shell is working together with the leading international supplier of washing technology, WashTec..Shell currently has the largest car wash network in Germany with 1,392 wash locations across the country.

Linda van Schaik, shown above, head of the Shell petrol station business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland commented "For us, the fuel station is and will remain the place where customers can find offers for their mobility needs. Therefore, there will continue be a Shell Car Wash offer at many Shell stations in the future.

However with the ramp-up of electromobility, the business with car-related services is shifting to the countryside and we are responding to this by providing a Shell Car Wash offer beyond the petrol station.. Depending on local conditions, the locations will also be equipped with charging stations and a shop offer, thus distinguishing them from the competition".

With a capacity of up to 100 cars per hour, the car wash is state-of-the-art and will also delight customers with great lighting effects. The wash offers four self-service car washes, where customers can wash their cars themselves with high-pressure cleaners and power foam, as well as 12 self-service vacuum cleaner stations.

In addition to payment with cash facilities, all common debit and credit cards with NFC function, as well as Apple and Google Pay, are accepted.

The second pilot is scheduled to open this year on Volksparkstraße in Hamburg. Shell is already successfully operating its own car wash projects on a similar scale in Canada.
