Most people charge at EnBW stations in Germany

The energy company EnBW dominates the German fast-charging market. Around 31 percent of all DC charging processes are completed at a charging station of the Karlsruhe-based company, according to the charging market report of the e-mobility service provider Elvah.

Aral Pulse 10.4 5, Ionity 9.1 % and EWE Go 7.2 % follow at a considerable distance. Among the top ten are also two retail companies, Aldi Süd 3.4 % and Lidl 1.8%.

The market shares of the individual charging station operators in AC charging are much closer together. There, the Kostal subsidiary Compleo leads with 8.8 percent, ahead of Hamburger Energiewerke with five percent and EnBW with 3.9 percent. The other ranking includes the municipal utilities of Munich, Berlin and Düsseldorf, which are mainly active in their home regions.

The report took into account around 21 million charging processes in the first half of 2024. Data from Tesla and Shell Recharge were not included; both companies did not provide sufficient information. Elvah estimates that Tesla would take a place between third and fifth place in the DC area, and Shell would land between eight and ten.

In general, the statistics show which charging station operator (Charge Point Operator, CPO) had the most customers. It is not recorded which e-mobility provider (EMP), i.e. charging service providers, have billed the users.
