Dover Fueling Solutions recently conducted an interview with Tijn van de Reijt, General Manager at LIQAL, as the brand celebrated its 10-year anniversary, something which DFS wanted to share with erpecnews readers.
Can you please provide more information about LIQAL, including its history, culture and the journey it has undertaken to this point?
At LIQAL, we are committed to creating a cleaner future for our planet. It is in our DNA to pave the way for a more efficient tomorrow. Our advanced technology and real-time data insights empower fuel retailers to merge sustainability with an exceptional fueling experience.
Founded in 2014, LIQAL has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation in the transport fueling industry. In 2016, we introduced our patented micro liquefaction technology, followed by the launch of our patented nozzle docking technology in 2017. Recognizing the increasing significance of data, we invested in our own SCADA system and rolled out an advanced remote operations system in 2018. Additionally, the launch of our bio-LNG liquefier enabled us to reduce fuel costs and lower CO2 emissions during the production of bio-LNG. By 2019, after five years of rapid development, we had outgrown our previous office space and relocated to accommodate our ongoing expansion.
In 2021, LIQAL was acquired by DFS. DFS is part of Dover Corporation and a leading provider of advanced energy dispensing equipment, electronic automation, point-of-sale and payment systems, automatic tank gauging and subscription solutions to fueling and convenience retail customers worldwide. Comprised of brands Wayne Fueling Systems, Tokheim®, OPW®, ClearView, PetroVend®, ProGauge, Fairbanks, AvaLAN Networks™, LIQAL and Bulloch Technologies®, DFS is dedicated to offering a broad range of solutions that power vehicles, including conventional fuel and clean energy products that support gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel and ethanol as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen (H2), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
How long have you been part of LIQAL and how would you describe your role?
I have been with LIQAL for four years, initially joining as the Operations Manager, where I oversaw all aspects of project execution and service delivery. For the past two years, I have served as the General Manager, taking on the ultimate responsibility for the entire LIQAL brand.
During your time at LIQAL, what are some of your professional accomplishments you are most proud of?
The integration of LIQAL into DFS was a two-year initiative that required collaboration with new colleagues in Europe. By fostering cultural alignment and maintaining a strong focus, our team was able to work closely together, resulting in the development of new procedures, innovative products, a broader customer base, and, most importantly, an expanded team.
Since becoming an operating unit of DFS on October 15, 2021, LIQAL has undergone significant evolution. What changes have taken place in LIQAL since the acquisition, and in what ways has DFS contributed to this journey?
LIQAL is a young and dynamic company that has been making strides for the past decade and is eager to continue its growth. Thanks to the support of DFS, we've been able to expand our team with new talent through the assistance of the DFS HR Business Partner. We're also excited to welcome a Major Oil Company (MOC) as a new customer, made possible through the efforts of the DFS Key Account team. Additionally, we've been addressing financial considerations with the guidance of DFS Finance. These are just a few examples of how DFS has played a vital role in our development.
In its 10-year history, what do you consider to be LIQAL’s biggest accomplishment?
The most significant achievement of LIQAL is its contribution to the decarbonization of transport fuels, accomplished through the installation and maintenance of up to 30 LNG sites and 2 hydrogen facilities.
In its 10-year history, what do you consider to be LIQAL’s most important contribution to the fuel retail industry?
LIQAL's Boil-off Gas Treatment Unit (BTU) ensures an ideal environment for LNG storage. This modular unit eliminates the necessity for active management of storage pressure, thereby reducing the reliance on LIN consumption and logistics. As a result, it maximizes LNG storage capacity, facilitating optimal delivery of LNG fuel to your station.
What would you consider to be the biggest challenge in the fuel retail industry now, or in the coming years?
The primary challenge facing the fuel industry is the speed at which traditional fuels are transitioning to clean energy alternatives. Maintaining pace with this shift will be a top priority for LIQAL and DFS.
How is the LIQAL community commemorating its 10-year anniversary?
To mark the 10-year anniversary we’ll be gathering with our team in Breda for an evening filled with dinner, drinks, and a special giveaway to commemorate this milestone.
