The Argentinian Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, announced that the national government will publish a decree that will enable self-service fuel at stations throughout the country.
This new system will allow customers to fill up with fuel in the "Selfservice" mode, a mode implemented in other parts of the world and at specific stations in Argentina. In Mendoza, since 2021 there has been a station that operates under this system in Luján.
"The decree is written and the adoption of the self-supply system is in process," said Sturzenegger, explaining that the decree necessary to implement this measure has already been drafted and is waiting to be made official.
Since 2018, in the government of Mauricio Macri, YPF proposed the project of the "Express" concept, being inaugurated the first in the country in Mendoza.
A common practice in the world
The system seeks to facilitate access to fuel and modernize operations at service stations. In other countries, this modality is a common practice and has generated benefits such as reduced waiting times and greater autonomy for consumers. Local entrepreneurs in the sector were willing to apply this system and pointed out that it will imply a transition, hand in hand with a "Cultural Change".
Educating customers
The businessman highlighted the work that the firefighters have done at the self-service station on Boedo Street, teaching customers how to use the system. "We understand that this will be one more possibility for consumers, who will have freedom when it comes to self-fueling. However, it will be a gradual process. It is important to consider the various current cultural and usage situations," concluded Rodríguez.
