Although it is currently more expensive than fossil fuels, the number of low-emissions hydrogen projects reaching FID doubled in 2024, indicating a growing commitment to low-carbon fuels and their derivatives.
In the years to come, low-carbon hydrogen will play a more prominent role in the shift to renewable energy than renewable hydrogen, emitting significantly fewer emissions than fossil fuels. However, whilst low-emission hydrogen will remain costly in the near term, prices are projected to decrease considerably by 2030.
