Cash payments fall to less than 25%

The presentation of the results of the Uniti Annual Survey 2024, which is valued as an important study on petrol stations and payment systems, marked the opening of this year's Uniti Mobility Payment Forum at the Grand Elysée Hotel Hamburg.

Jens Stolte, owner of the co-organizer Stolte Consult, was able to point out the high representativeness of the survey. This is based on data from 13,131 stations, which account for over 90 percent of the petrol station market in Germany.

The result of the current Uniti annual survey: Customers are increasingly relying on cashless payments at petrol stations. The share of cash payments at the stations has fallen to less than 25 percent, while in retail it is over 35 percent.

The share of cash payments at the stations was 24.6 percent last year, falling below a quarter for the first time. Debit cards, on the other hand, were able to continue 44.8%, credit cards have a market share of around ten percent, and fuel cards account for around a fifth at 19.74 percent.
