OKQ8 launches solar charging station in Sweden

OKQ8 and Skellefteå Kraft are launching a joint pilot station in Nacka where solar energy, fast charging and energy storage are combined. The aim is to reduce the load on the electricity grid while increasing the supply of renewable electricity for electric vehicles.

Behind the project is a long-term collaboration where the energy company is responsible for the investment, operation and maintenance of the charging infrastructure. The new solution is based on solar panels installed on the station's roof producing electricity that is stored in batteries. If necessary, this stored energy is used to enable fast charging even at limited grid capacity.

"We have been working with OKQ8 for a long time on fast chargers. We are now developing the concept by integrating a battery storage facility that supports the electricity grid. It enables fast charging even if the capacity would be insufficient," says Magnus Brodin, business developer at Skellefteå Kraft.

According to the parties, the system provides several advantages, including the ability to charge vehicles with solar electricity and to expand capacity through more charging points at existing stations.
