In February 2025, Ubitricity was awarded the contract for the continued operation of the lamppost charge points set up in their initial ElMobileBerlin research project. The new contract to operate EV charge points across Berlin will run until the end of 2032 and includes an option to install up to 250 additional charging points in the Berlin districts that have not yet received a charge point.
Alexander Reinhardt, CEO of ubitricity, said “A special thanks go to the SenMVKU (Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment), Stromnetz Berlin and the districts involved in the project for the excellent cooperation during the pilot. We are proud that ubitricity is now the largest operator of charging facilities in Berlin after the municipal utilities,”
Alongside expanding the network, the signage and markings of the existing lamppost charge points in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Reinickendorf, Treptow-Köpenick and Spandau have been significantly improved. Almost 100 locations have been retrofitted with dedicated parking signage, and more than 100 more will follow this year. These measures improve the usability of lamp post chargers for EV drivers and support sustainable mobility in Berlin.
Lamp column charging points are particularly suitable for highly densely populated districts with high competition for public space, as they have a small footprint. The construction phase for the 250 additional charging points will run until the end of 2025 and is largely related to the speed of the approval procedures in the districts.
In addition to lamppost charging points, ubitricity already operates 100 22kw AC standalone charge points and plans to build another 200 AC charging points in Berlin by the end of 2025.
