Billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa are shifting their petrol station empire from their hometown of Blackburn to America ahead of a New York stock market flotation.
The Issa’s EG Group said it plans to relocate from its current headquarters to Charlotte, North Carolina, while moving its remaining British business to a new site in Bolton, Greater Manchester. It marks the end of an era for EG Group, which has been headquartered in Blackburn for almost 25 years.
The town been at epicentre of the brothers’ rags-to-riches ascent. They recently lodged plans to build one of the UK’s largest cemeteries near Blackburn as well as a new mosque in the town. They are also building a series of mega mansions close to where they grew in the Brookhouse area.
EG’s move comes ahead of an expected $13bn (£9.7bn) flotation of EG on the New York stock exchange. America is EG Group’s biggest market, generating the largest portion of its revenues.
The company no longer runs any forecourts in the UK after Zuber Issa bought its remaining British sites to spin off into a completely separate business called EG On The Move last year. This business is still based in Blackburn.
