Total Energies opens flagship charging hub in Berlin

TotalEnergies has opened its first major flagship charging hub with fast-charging stations for cars and trucks at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER). At a total of twelve car charging points, electric cars can now charge with an output of up to 400 kilowatts. For electrically powered trucks, three charging points are available, each with an output of up to 400 kilowatts. The charging stations are supplied with 100 percent electricity from renewable energy sources.

The new location is located directly at the airport entrance on Elly-Beinhorn-Ring. The truck charging station is designed for five-axle vehicles with a total weight of up to 40 tonnes and offers sufficient manoeuvring space for commercial vehicles. The flagship charging hub is designed to be barrier-free.

Renewable energies and sustainability also played an important role in the construction and design of the charging hub. For example, the roof of the car charging station is equipped with solar modules, the electricity production of which flows into the local charging infrastructure. In order to conserve resources and avoid waste, the concrete slabs available at the site were also crushed on site and recycled as a substrate for the manoeuvring area. The green central island and the surrounding green area reduce surface sealing and thus facilitate the infiltration of rainwater.

Jan Petersen, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Deutschland GmbH: "We are consistently pushing ahead with the expansion of our HPC fast-charging network in Germany – with the aim of supporting our customers in reducing their CO₂ emissions. In an ideal location, directly at BER Airport, we are opening our first flagship hub today, where both electric cars and electrically powered commercial vehicles and trucks can be charged. Whether travellers, taxi drivers or logistics service providers - they will all now find a fast and convenient charging option with optimal transport connections at BER. In this way, we are making an important contribution to the decarbonization of mobility and delivery traffic around Berlin Airport."

Dr. Claudia Elif Stutz, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport: "This charging park is creating much more than just new infrastructure – TotalEnergies is sending a strong signal for a new beginning and a future. The investment shows a clear vision for the mobility of tomorrow. At BER, one of the central transport hubs, it becomes clear that charging infrastructure is becoming a natural part of our everyday lives. This is exactly what we need for electromobility to develop its full potential. Anyone who is out and about here will experience: Charging is available, fast and convenient. This makes it easier to switch to electric vehicles and strengthens broad acceptance in our society."
