Italian stations receive €937 Million fine

In Italy, the national antitrust authority has imposed fines on six oil companies for anti-competitive price fixing. These amount to a total of 937 million euros.

The companies are alleged to have colluded in fixing the bio-component included in the price of fuel at filling stations, according to the AGCM authority in Rome.

The companies concerned are Esso, Eni, Ip, Q8, Saras and Tamoil. According to the competition watchdog Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM), it was informed of the agreements by a whistleblower within the industry.

The penalties relate to the period from the beginning of 2020 to mid-2023. According to the antitrust authority, the companies implemented price increases at almost the same time, most of which were in line with each other and came about through the direct or indirect exchange of information.

The Italian company Eni (formerly: Agip) has to pay the highest fine of 336 million euros.
