SOCAR Petroleum SA, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), expanded its network of filling stations in Romania under the SOCAR brand by 14 facilities in 2025, SOCAR Petroleum General Director Ramin Aliyev said.
"SOCAR exceeded the business targets set for this year. We planned to open nine new filling stations in Romania, but we are ending the year with 14. For 2026, we have plans that are no less ambitious - to exceed the mark of 100 stations," Aliyev was quoted as saying by the Romanian publication Business Forum.
Romania's fuel market remains dynamic and shows sustainable growth, Aliyev said. "Therefore, in the coming years, we intend to offer our products and services at more than 200 filling stations," he said at the opening of a SOCAR filling station in the city of Baia Mare.
With the commissioning of this facility, the last one this year, the total number of SOCAR filling stations in Romania has reached 88 stations. The new station is equipped with two multi-product fuel dispensers with three types of fuel - Nano 95, Nano Diesel and Nano Super Diesel, as well as a dispenser for cargo transport.
According to the Business Forum publication, SOCAR Petroleum's turnover amounted to 3.6 billion Romanian lei (707 million euros) in 2024, up 33% compared to the previous year's figure. The company's total investment in Romania has exceeded 80 million euros.
It was previously reported that SOCAR Petroleum SA plans to capture 6% of Romania's fuel market in the medium term, with around 200 filling stations, and increase its annual turnover to $1 billion.
SOCAR Petroleum has been operating on the Romanian market since 2011, developing a network of filling stations and managing three oil depots - in Teius, Onesti and Constanta. Furthermore, SOCAR Trading, SOCAR's trading subsidiary, has a license from the Romanian energy market regulator to operate on Romania's wholesale gas market.
