OMV Petrom completes works at Petrobrazi refinery

OMV Petrom, the largest energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, has completed a 20-million-euro investment at the Petrobrazi refinery to modernize its waste-water treatment systems.

OMV Petrom is the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, with an annual Group hydrocarbon production of approximately 40 million boe in 2024. The Group has a refining capacity of 4.5 million tons annually and operates an 860 MW high-efficiency gas-fired power plant. The Group is present on the oil products retail market in Romania and neighbouring countries through approximately 780 filling stations under two brands – OMV and Petrom.

“At Petrobrazi, we are constantly investing in modern technologies to reduce our environmental impact and increase operational efficiency. These new waste-water treatment projects reflect our determination to operate responsibly and invest in technologies that protect the environment and support Romania’s energy sector future,” said Radu Căprău, Member of OMV Petrom’s Executive Board responsible for Refining and Marketing.

Within the new project the existing tanks were covered and modern systems for capturing and treating wastewater gas were installed. These gases undergo three successive processes – chemical treatment, activated carbon filtration and thermal oxidation – to be cleaned efficiently.
