Galp's 100MW Green Hydrogen Park has received EU approval, marking a significant step in the European hydrogen infrastructure.
The project, located at the Sines refinery in Portugal, is expected to produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, replacing 20% of the grey hydrogen currently used in refinery operations.
This replacement is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 110,000 tonnes per year. The project is a result of the EU's support, with the European Investment Bank (EIB) providing €180 million in funding to support Galp's hydrogen project.
The electrolyser is set to begin production in 2026, and the project represents a combined investment of €650 million.
