No fuel blamed on Rhine water levels

The low water level of the Rhine in Germany was the reason behind several petrol stations in Luxembourg temporarily running out of fuel last week, according to Minister for the Economy Lex Delles (DP).

Replying to a parliamentary question from Pirate MP Marc Goergen, Delles wrote that some importers in the Grand Duchy have had to adjust their supply chains as shipping on the Rhine and Moselle has been severely restricted because of the low water level.

Such a situation could lead to “temporary supply bottlenecks”, according to the minister.

Last week, up to 10 petrol stations were temporarily out of stock, Delles confirmed. Overall, the supply situation for petroleum products in Luxembourg is tight, but not critical. “Despite the low water levels on the Rhine, the country’s supply is currently secure,” Delles emphasised.
