ExxonMobil and Neste collaborate to deliver SAF at French airports

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel is produced from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials.

Aviation fuel supplier ExxonMobil has reached an agreement with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Neste to commercially distribute Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at France’s largest airports.

The move comes after the French Government introduced the 1% SAF mandate, which has come into force from 1 January.

Under the partnership, Neste’s SAF production capabilities will be integrated with ExxonMobil’s expertise in the delivery and distribution of jet fuel.

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel is made of 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, which include animal fat waste and used cooking oil.

When pure and over its life cycle, the fuel is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared with fossil jet fuel use.

In this project, the SAF will be a 30% mixture of conventional fossil-based jet fuel.

ExxonMobil France lead country manager Charles Amyot said: “We are delivering solutions that enable customers to meet product performance requirements while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We have the capabilities and infrastructure to safely and reliably supply this energy and will be ready to comply with new French regulations for sustainable aviation fuel.”

Neste Europe renewable aviation vice-president Jonathan Wood said: “Neste is committed to helping the aviation industry with its emission reduction targets. Our Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel is a drop-in solution that is readily available now.

Last month, Malaysia Airlines operated its maiden flight using SAF, in partnership with Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) and Neste.
