UK's Applegreen transformational expansion continues

Applegreen revealed a 41% rise in annual revenue thanks to the continuing expansion of the group’s forecourt portfolio.

The Irish roadside retailer in 2018 agreed to the acquisition of a majority stake in Welcome Break, adding interests in 34 motorway service areas in the UK, though this was just one deal done during the year.

In America, it also acquired 43 leasehold sites in Florida and seven sites in South Carolina. Overall, the estate increased by 130 sites to 472 sites. Also, the company noted that it opened 22 new food outlets, plus some 200 which come with the Welcome Break investment, taking its tally to 482 food outlets across the group.

Applegreen chief executive Bob Etchingham, (pictured above) says "company headed into an exciting phase, the performance was driven by ongoing expansion of our estate, positive like for like growth despite weather-related disruption and strong fuel margin performance, particularly in the fourth quarter of the year."
