Applegreen very satisfied with strong start to the year

Irish Fuel retailer Applegreen has said it is very satisfied with the progress and performance of the business for the first four months of the year.

In a trading update issued ahead of its AGM this month, Applegreen said that 2016 has started well both in terms of trading and the development of the business. Applegreen's chairman Daniel Kitchen said that since the end of last year, the company added 17 sites to the estate, including three new petrol filling stations and two new service areas in the Republic of Ireland.

It also added four new petrol filling stations in the UK so far this year as well as two new service areas. "Our pipeline of new petrol filling stations continues to be strong in both the Republic of Ireland and particularly in the UK," Mr Kitchen noted. The company has also opened a new petrol filling station in the Long Island region in the North East of the US, adding that it has made good progress developing its presence in that region.

"Overall the trading performance of the business for the first four months of the year has been in line with the board's expectations. This gives us confidence in our ability to meet our growth targets for 2016," the company stated.
