First 'REWE To Go' shop opened in Germany by Aral owner-managed site

A REWE To Go shop was officially opened at the Aral petrol station of the Janssen family in Weeze, Lower Rhine.

The special thing about it: It is the first owner-managed station to adopt the innovative shop concept. From now on, Germany's market leader Aral also offers owners of petrol stations the opportunity to use a successful shop concept with REWE To Go and to benefit from two strong brands.

Surveys show that REWE To Go petrol station partners can offer a considerable increase in sales. In addition, category management experts ensure that the offer is always adapted to changing customer needs.

In addition to the selection of goods, this also applies to the arrangement in the shop and the visual design. Customers at all REWE To Go locations at Aral thus benefit from a consistent offer.

With the opening of the REWE To Go shop, petrol station partner Wilhelm Janssen is relying on a well thought-out shop concept that has been tried and tested in practice since 2016. Because: At around 800 Aral locations, REWE To Go focuses on fresh food as well as cold and hot dishes.

The classics of on-the-go consumption such as snacks and drinks are also represented, as is the proven range of petrol stations with tobacco products, newspapers and magazines as well as care products for vehicles or motor oil.

"We opted for the REWE To Go concept because we believe that we are well positioned for the future. Our existence would have become more and more difficult with our own shop concept.

We are convinced that with REWE and Aral we have two strong partners at our side. Our new shop makes an excellent visual impression. So far, we have only received positive feedback from our customers.

The Aral conversion

It is important to highlight the professionalism with which Aral carried out the conversion," said Wilhelm Janssen, owner of the petrol station, at the official opening of the new shop.

"We at Lekkerland are very pleased that REWE To Go can also be found at owner-managed Aral petrol stations in the future. As a result, REWE To Go has even more customers at its disposal.

I wish the Janssen family and their team every success," says Philipp Pauly, Senior Vice President Energy Stations and Convenience Stores at Lekkerland, the subsidiary of REWE Group, which bundles convenience activities such as REWE To Go.

"The needs of our customers are becoming increasingly diverse – both in terms of fuels and on-the-go supply. We want to offer them what they are looking for and at the same time make it as easy as possible for them.

The expansion and standardisation of our product range will benefit our customers and the entire Aral filling station network," says Achim Bothe, CEO of Aral AG. Background: Until now, the REWE To Go locations were reserved exclusively for company-owned Aral petrol stations. This is about to change from now on. The REWE To Go shop concept can now also be implemented at owner-managed stations.

How important the shop business is for the profitability of a petrol station is demonstrated by the transactions and the average returns. Meanwhile, around 60 percent of all transactions at Aral filling stations have nothing to do with fuels.

REWE To Go is part of Aral's so-called "Dealer Offer". This includes all products and services that petrol station owners can use as part of a closer cooperation with Aral.

In addition to the convenience offering, this includes participation in Germany's largest customer loyalty programme, PAYBACK, and the integration of a SuperWash system. In addition, Aral also supports filling station partners optionally in the integration of Aral pulse ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles as well as in station control, for example through professional advertising campaigns or with organizational tools, for example for personnel planning.
