#UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s and Greggs, a national chain of baking shops, have teamed up to bring customers a new type of concession at one of its petrol stations.
The concession will enable customers stopping to refuel to choose from Greggs’ freshly prepared menu including the sausage roll, steak bake and vegan alternatives, as well as options from the supermarket chain’s convenience range.
Greggs and Sainsbury’s are expected to open further concessions together later this year throughout the UK.
It comes as competing supermarket chain Tesco has expanded its partnership with Greggs, adding two more of the baker’s concessions to its UK stores.
Greggs remains hugely popular with UK shoppers as the cost-of-living crisis rages on. Like-for-like sales at the baker rose to £609m, up 17.1% for the first 19 weeks of the year.
Greggs property director at Tony Rowson said: “The opening will allow us to provide Greggs’ favourites to even more customers, in a format that complements Sainsbury’s existing petrol station offer.”
Sainsbury’s food commercial director Rhian Bartlett added: “We’ve launched this new concept as part of our ongoing plan to transform our takeaway food offer with top brands – bringing even more innovative and delicious food and drink to our customers.
“This is the first time we’ve worked with Greggs and we’re delighted to be partnering with one of the UK’s favourites for freshly prepared food-on-the-go.”
