EU approves stricter rules for batteries

The European Parliament have given the green light to new rules on design, production and waste management for all types of batteries and batteries sold in the EU. The new rules set by the European Parliament state that batteries must be more sustainable and durable and offer better performance.

The new legislation takes into account technological developments and future challenges in the sector, and covers the entire life cycle of batteries, from design to the moment they are discarded.

From the design point of view, the design must ensure that consumers and users of them can withdraw and replace them easily. In addition, light transport batteries, industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2 kWh and electric vehicle batteries must have a digital passport.
